Halting the Downward Spiral After a Plague of Locusts
In addition to flooding, regional conflicts, and the coronavirus pandemic, Ethiopia was also struck by a devastating plague of locusts in 2020. Through this project in the country’s north-east, Welthungerhilfe is supporting traditional livestock herders whose animals have been weakened by hunger since locusts stripped their pastures bare. After being treated for any diseases, all the animals are vaccinated, with the weakest also receiving concentrated feed. In addition, their owners are provided with seeds for replanting.
