Drinking Water and Flood Protection
Despite preventive measures to guard against flooding, the Awash river in north-eastern Ethiopia has heavily flooded its banks due to increasingly extreme amounts of rain. One of the major consequences of this has been the contamination of wells, leaving people potentially drinking water that is polluted with pathogens. In this project, Welthungerhilfe is delivering drinking water by lorry to several hard-hit villages. Shelter is also provided as necessary. These activities are additionally complemented by hygiene campaigns, with COVID-19 prevention playing a prominent role.
