Alleviating the Greatest Hardships Caused by Locusts
All the warnings of a massive plague of desert locusts hitting East Africa have unfortunately proven correct, including in Somaliland. The insects are attacking farmland and grazing areas, destroying the livelihoods of people who—having suffered the effects of natural disasters such as droughts or cyclones—already found it difficult to eke out a living from their fields and livestock. To alleviate the worst effects of the infestation, Welthungerhilfe is working with the UN World Food Programme to distribute food and cash to the families in greatest need.
