Making Progress in the Face of Conflict
The violent conflict in the region of Tigray in northern Ethiopia is also affecting neighbouring provinces, thrusting around 140,000 already impoverished people in the border region into an even more precarious situation. Through a Welthungerhilfe cash-for-work scheme, nearly 700 families can now earn an income while improving their livelihoods through training programmes, with areas of focus such as low-impact soil management, pasture renewal, and new infrastructure for water supply and irrigation systems.
